What is a variable frequency drive (VFD) panel?

A VFD panel is an electrical enclosure that houses the panels that control motor speed. The panel adjusts the frequency and voltage supplied to a motor, delivering precise speed control, smooth starts and energy savings on variable-torque loads like pumps and fans.

There are several VFD panel components:

  • A VFD panel varies motor speed by changing output frequency, cutting energy use on pumps and fans that rarely need full speed.
  • Line reactors and filters reduce harmonic distortion, protecting upstream transformers and nearby equipment from electrical noise.
